Our story
My wife has struggled for years to lose inches at her midsection. She
walked 5 miles a day, did DVD workout videos, and even would work out with a
weight ball as she watched TV. We saw commercials for a local center which
performed 'Lipodissolve', or lipolysis. The injection of phosphatidylcholine deoxycholate
into the fat cells, turns it into a more absorbable fat, your body breaks it
down and disposes it, naturally.
My wife received her first set of injections, which was going well.
Until two days prior to her next set of injections. She developed two
lumps (lumps should not be present this late in treatment). They were warm
to the touch, red and painful. The nurse entered all the above in my
wife's records, but could not identify what it was. The text book
diagnoses for a abscess is a soft lump that is warm to the touch, red and
painful. Abscesses were listed as a possible side effect of the process,
but the nurse could not identify it. A doctor was never called in to look
at her, nor was one contacted, until the following morning when my wife could
barely get out of bed due to the pain.
Over a telephone conversation that was relayed by their main headquarters
switchboard, they made the diagnoses that my wife had an infection. They
prescribed medication, showing no signs of concern. They seemed so
comfortable, it made us comfortable that the pill would work. No
antibiotic will fix and abscess, we found out later. The nurse was off the
next two days and no one from the clinic called to check on her. The
antibiotics did make my wife feel slightly better, so we left it to work.
After two days, she became nauseous and the abscesses had turned into nasty
looking blisters, measuring almost 3 inches across. The nurse had some
swelling could occur, but was this the swelling??
I took my wife to the ER that morning. The hospital was appalled at the
state of my wife. They said they would have to drain the abscesses, the
only true treatment for an abscess. They were fearful of the contents.
When they lanced the first one, it erupted in horrible smelly puss and blood.
The immediately sedated her and went to cleaning both abscesses out. When
they were done, she was left with two cavities in her abdominal area that were
4.5cm deep. They packed her wounds and released her with more antibiotics
and pain medications.
As of 17 May, she is still recovering from the wounds, its been 75 days.
She is to the point of wearing small bandaids. The wounds have healed to
small scabs. The outer layers of skin are dry and scaly. She will end up with scars about 2 inch around, do to the
blistering and skin burn from the abscess and PCDC burning the skin, since it is
assumed it was not injected to the correct depth.
At no time did a doctor examine my wife, until the ER visit. A doctor
was conferred with over the phone, but never looked at my wife. There was
no concern on the part of the clinic to prevent this from happening, even after
the abscess was diagnosed
